In 1995 Howest, University College West Flanders, became an autonomous Higher Education Institution because of a merger of six prominent institutions of higher education in Flanders. Education Since then the development within Howest has taken on a fresh impetus. Today about 5600 full-time students are enrolled at Howest, pursuing 27 Bachelors and 7 Masters covering a wide range of unique positioned disciplines, such as technical design engineering, industrial product design, digital arts & gaming, new media applications, sports education leisure and wellness and applied architecture. Howest aims to be a learning community which promotes innovation, creativity and initiative. The core values are to serve, empower and care. Howest therefore is a fertile environment for research and innovation. FieldLabs In the ProFit project, Howest does research for innovation in sports participation. Howest has the expertise to use industrial and technological innovation to promote physical activity. Its strength is in coaching students and empower them to be creative and innovative. Howest aims to continuously use ProFit FieldLabs by combining research experience, knowledge in technology and industrial design and empowering students to stimulate sportsinnovation. Howest will do measurements what effects the innovations have on physical activity.
